Toilets set a precedent: competition for better sanitation in German schools
50% of people worldwide without safe sanitation:The German Toilet Organisation e. V. is fighting for decent toilets and awarded prizes for the third time in the "Toiletten machen Schule" competition in 2024.
135 schools took part: the winners developed innovative concepts to improve their school toilets.
Main prizes: Stielerstraße primary school (Munich), Winsen grammar school (Winsen an der Luhe), Hellweg secondary school (Unna)
Special prizes: Laagbergschule (Wolfsburg), Gesamtschule Uellendahl-Katernberg (Wuppertal), Staatliche Gemeinschaftsschule Jenaplan (Weimar), Paul-Simmel Grundschule (Berlin), Gymnasium am Kurfürstlichen Schloss (Mainz), Scharmützelsee Schule (Berlin), Rudolf Koch Schule (Offenbach)

Planning of educational facilities: DGUV participation and important aspects
The German Social Accident Insurance (DGUV) must be involved in the planning of educational facilities in order to ensure the safety and health of employees, children and young people.
In addition to functionality and safety, educational facilities must also offer identification and comfort. Planning must take into account the various needs of users, including accessibility, movement areas and specific requirements in research and technical areas.

Free space for teaching development
"Freiraum" translates to "free space" or "scope" is a call for proposals that enables teachers to develop and test ideas for teaching without thematic or subject-related restrictions. Projects are selected on the basis of their innovative potential and the call for proposals is issued regularly. The initiative is aimed at teachers at universities, encouraging individuals to submit project ideas, with a lottery process determining access to the application process among those interested.

Shaping the university of the future
"Teaching Architecture" aims to strengthen university teaching and empower students to shape society. The call for proposals offers universities the opportunity to improve their teaching practice and sharpen their profiles. Projects focus on the testing and structural integration of innovations in teaching and learning, with an application deadline from the end of July 2024, a maximum project duration of six years and a funding volume of around 480 million euros.

The "Good air in schools" website offers comprehensive information on the subject of ventilation and air quality in school buildings. It is aimed at both schools and planners in school construction. The initiative is supported by the Heinz Trox Foundation.

The YouTube channel "Developing learning spaces :: online" presents a variety of videos on the topic of sustainable school construction. In videos lasting between 30 and 60 minutes, the various aspects of this topic are examined from different perspectives and discussed in detail.

Munich learning centre concept
The City of Munich has developed a new type of building for its own school construction programme that is different from the corridor school.
